If you have HTC Sync installed in Flyer, remove it first.

Step by step

  • Check the version of HBOOT by: turn off Flyer completely, press and hold 2 buttons Power and Vol Down at the same time to access to Bootloader. At this time, we can unlock Bootloader for 2 HBOOT versions: 1.10.0000 and 1.11.0003.
  • Reboot the tablet, go to Setting > Application > Development and turn on Debugging mode. Now go to  Setting > About Tablet > Tablet Identity, view and write down the serial number of your Flyer.
  • Go to revolutionary.io

Open folder Revolutionary and run Revolutionary.exe. Input the beta key and wait for Flayer reboots to Bootloader 2 times.

After you can see S-Off in Bootloader, Revolutionary will ask you whether continue downloading and installing ClockWorkMod Recovery or not. Press Y and Enter to continue. After installing, in the Bootloader screen, choose Recovery (using the vol Up, Down, and Power buttons) to access CWM Recovery. Choose “install zip from sdcard” and choose file su-3.0 – install. Reboot your device to complete rooting your HTC Flyer.

Active Phone function (using headphone)

  • Note that the phone function only works with headphones.
  • Download and install Root Explorer.
  • Using Root Explorer to go to System > Bin  and open file build.prop using note editor. Before editing or copying this file, change “Mount R/W” to “Mount R/O”. You can copy this file to PC to edit and copy back to system folder. After copying back, remember to change “Mount R/O” to “Mount R/W”.

  • Edit parameters to add phone and sms functions as follows:

hmm... thank you for the guide, I did everything and edited the build.props. ( IMPORTANT... Before editing you have to remount the device r/w as it is r/o!!!)

BUT what a pitty. I have no phone Applications at all. Could be that this depends on the providers SIM-Card???

Thank you for infos...

Actually, we have checked this phone function for only some countries (including Viet Nam). We are not sure that it can work well for all providers. And please note that to use the phone function, you need to use a headphone (as shown in the last figure). This phone function doesn't work with the built-in microphone.

as far as I have seen the bluetooth headphone is working and paired but indicates no connection... so far...

Actually it would be helpful for me to know which phone-applications, especially the dialer, should be there even without a sim card or.. is ther a way to activate the dialer or even see if it is there?

thank you

First, thank you for your comment. To edit the build.prop, in Root Explorer go tin system folder and change "Mount R/W" to "Mount R/O" as in the figure http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a143/PhamQuang2505/Flyer14.jpg

You can copy this file to PC to edit and copy it back to the system folder.

To enable Phone/SMS, edit to:
ro.ril.reject.cs.ss.enabled=0 ro.ril.reject.mo.ussd.enabled=0 ro.phone.function=1

To support Bluetooth headphone, edit more:
ro.bt.profiles = 4270403 service.brcm.bt.ag_supported = 1

After copying back this file, remember to change "Mount R/O" to "Mount R/W"

Reboot your HTC Flyer. The phone and sms functions should be available on HTC. You don't need to install other apps.

You can download the Root Explorer here http://www.mediafire.com/?69mm6opmp0md37w

OK I managed it so far. (AND IT IS REALLY REALLY WOW!!!) It seems that my Flyers OS. (originally 1.07.... -> changed to 1.10... to install revolutionary...) have not had the phone applications on board. Though after installing revolutionary and clockworkmod
(http://www.techofweb.com/technology/install-cwm-revolutionary.html)
I copied   LeeDrOiD-Flyer-V2.2.0.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314334) to the smartcard and installed it via HBOOT-Recovery

Everything is working as ist should...

Guys after downloding the Revolutionary and Root explorer where do I save it to run the installation

ToanInfo said...

You can run Revolutionary on your computer (Mac or Windows). For Root Explorer, you can install it from Android Market or download and copy it to SD card to install. Root Explorer runs on your device.

confused said...
November 17, 2011 at 5:43 AM

..or just how do I copy it to a PC to edit and copy back.  I follow the instructions, but when going to root explorer, mounting as RO and clicking on file, it opens the build.prop file and I can see the contents, but no way of editing it????

ToanInfo said...

in Root Explorer, touch and hold on the file to display a context menu. Open this file with a text editor app.

you may need to check if you have Bootloader HBOOT versions: 1.10.0000 and 1.11.0003. At this time, the phone func works with these two bootloaders.

Hi, Not able to save the changes. How to change “Mount R/W” to “Mount R/O”?

ToanInfo said...
January 24, 2012 at 5:55 AM

Change "Mount R/W" and "Mount R/O" as in this figure http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a143/PhamQuang2505/Flyer14.jpg

To save change, you need to set permission for the files or the folder. See the instruction here http://blog.toaninfo.com/2011/10/titanium-backup-root-explorer-2-must.html

That HTC engineer has no idea of its own product he is developing!!! Flyer has a GSM antenna (using also 3G) and CAN DO PHONE CALLS! You just need to know how to free the phone function (which is by default not visible and closed). This is somehow the same procedure as HTC Shift needed (liberate the SnapView).

I haven't tested yet! I guess the answer is yes ^^

If someone finds this to be too complicated: you can choose to install FlyHigh ROM (has already phone function, es explorer and many more). Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205050&highlight=custom+rom

But, beware: you need perm-root, boot 1.10/1.11, GB 2.23, superuser and off course, S-Off.
